Conference FAQs

We recognise the huge challenges we continue to face during the current global pandemic. The health and safety of all of those who attend and work at Annual Conference is of the utmost importance to us as an organisation. We will continue to play our part in society’s efforts to tackle this global challenge, while moving forward with the constitutional requirements of holding Annual Conference in person this year. It is our continued hope and focus that we will be able to meet in person however we will work in line with the government restrictions at the time and continue to update our attendees to any changes or considerations that will need to be put in place as part of these restrictions. Answers to the most common Conference queries.

When and where is the next Labour Party Annual Conference?

The 2021 Annual Conference will take place in Brighton from Saturday 25 September to Wednesday 29 September. The Annual Conference venues are the Brighton Centre and the Hilton Brighton Metropole.


How can I apply to attend Conference?

The quickest and easiest way to apply for Conference is online. Please ensure you choose the correct pass when applying as we are unable to downgrade your pass once the application has been completed. Applications for Annual Conference will open in early 2021 and, depending on which capacity you’re attending in, you can find the forms on the relevant section of the website.


I have been to Conference before, do I need to apply again?

Anyone wishing to attend Annual Conference, whether or not they have been before, must apply. This ensures that we have the most up to date information for you and should help with the application process. Please see ‘How can I apply to attend Conference’ above.


Do you really need a passport photograph for my registration?

All applications must include an up to date passport style photograph of yourself – the guidelines for photographs are outlined on the application forms. This is a security requirement.


Can I fax my application form to you?

We do not accept faxed versions of application forms as we require an original colour passport photograph of you for your conference pass.


Can I be invoiced for my application?

We do not offer an invoicing service for any applications. You can either pay by debit/credit card or by cheque. Please make cheques payable to ‘The Labour Party’ and post to Conference Services, The Labour Party, Labour Central, Kings Manor, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 6PA. Please ensure you clearly mark on the back of the cheque the full name and membership number (if relevant) of the applicant the cheque relates to.


I have completed my application form for Conference, what happens next?

Your application will go through a series of security checks.
If your application is successful, we will inform you by email that your credential will be dispatched via post. Credentials are dispatched from the beginning of September. If your application is late, your credential may have to be collected from the conference team on site. We will inform you if this is the case.
If we have any queries with your application, we will contact you directly.


Will I receive a receipt for my application payment?

If you require a receipt for your application, please contact the Conference Team on 0345 092 3311 or [email protected]


Can I upgrade my pass or add additional days?

In most cases, you can upgrade your pass at any time prior to your pass being dispatched. Please contact the Conference Team on 0345 092 3311 or email [email protected] and we will be able to advise you further.
If you receive your pass in the post before you upgrade, you will need to visit the conference team on site and details of this will be available in the Annual Conference Magazine which you will receive with your credential. We are unable to downgrade any passes; please ensure you choose the correct pass when applying.


My application arrived after the deadline, can the late fee be waived?

Deadlines are in place to give us adequate time to process your application.
All deadlines and price increases are strictly adhered to and cannot be waived.


I have submitted my application and have now changed some of my details, who do I contact?

You must contact the Conference Team as soon as possible on 0345 092 3311 or [email protected] and we will update your contact details.
You may need to collect a replacement pass from the Conference Team onsite if your pass has already been printed and dispatched.


I am speaking/working at a fringe event – how do I get access to the event?

Anyone speaking at a fringe event inside the conference zone must have a valid credential.
Please contact the organisation holding the fringe event and they will advise you on how to apply.
Please also see ‘How can I apply to attend conference’ above. If the fringe event you are attending is outside the conference zone no credential is required.


Who can apply as a third sector visitor?

Third sector visitor passes are only available to registered charities and not-for-profit organisations.


How do I book a fringe event?

You can request a fringe event by visiting our Fringe Hub. Applications will open in early 2021.


Can I see what’s on at Annual Conference?

In late August we publish the Annual Conference timetable online. This allows you to see what fringe events and plenary sessions are taking place.
You can also download the free Conference App, which allows you to save a diary of speeches and events you wish to attend, as well as get information about the exhibition.


What is the Carbon Emissions fee?

The Labour Party has shown consistent commitment towards tackling climate change at home and abroad, by setting bold targets and pursuing ambitious policies, and working to secure long-term international agreement on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Participants at our Annual Conferences pay a small fee to compensate for the carbon emissions associated with their attendance. Labour recognises that tackling the threat of climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing the world today.
The payments we make to Natural Capital Partners from the carbon emission fee will help to fund UK forest creation projects. As the trees grow they will sequester carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, and contribute to improved land management, flood prevention and the provision of more green spaces for local communities.
All of tvhese projects adhere to the Woodland Carbon Code – a voluntary standard for woodland creation projects in the UK. This provides assurance that the sites will be sustainably managed and deliver verified carbon reductions.

COVID Measures At Annual Conference

COVID measures at Annual Conference

We await Government guidance on mass events during the Autumn and will continue to update delegates and visitors as we build up to Annual Conference 2021. However, we wanted to provide details of our plans for the event.

We continue to plan for an in person Annual Conference and as this is a large event, we are taking the following steps to reduce risk and to provide reassurance to those attending. We will encourage Conference attendees to wear a facemask when in any Conference venue to provide reassurance to others, unless exempt.

We are working to offer testing facilities at Conference and full details will be available in a COVID guidebook to be circulated prior to Conference.

We are asking all attendees to provide evidence of double vaccination or a negative lateral flow test taken in the previous 48 hours in order to gain entry into venues within the Conference secure zone – the Brighton Centre and Hilton Metropole hotel. This is to ensure that the event is as safe as possible for everyone attending.

If you are unable to access the NHS Covid Pass app, please present one of the following:

  • Gov.uk text message – negative lateral flow
  • Gov.uk email – negative lateral flow test
  • Double vaccination card
  • COVID vaccination certification
  • NHS Scotland PDF double vaccination
  • EU Digital COVID certificate (previously known as COVID green pass scheme)
  • Private PCR negative test result certificate

Proof of immunity shown by a positive PCR test result for COVID-19 lasting for 180 days from the date of the positive test and following completion of the self-isolation period

  • NHS COVID-19 Pass letter (proving vaccination status only) by calling 119 or visiting the NHS website

We encourage you to add your Covid Pass to your phone wallet, to take a screenshot of your Pass or bring a paper copy of your evidence in case of issues accessing this when you arrive.

Those registered with a GP in England can use the NHS app to receive a COVID pass, or request a paper version. Those in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland can use the links below to receive confirmation of vaccination status:

For those who have not been double vaccinated, proof of a negative lateral flow test can be used to gain access to Conference. Lateral flow test results must be reported to https://www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result and the resulting email or text message can be used to access Conference. Delegates with the NHS app can access a COVID pass valid for 48 hours from a negative test. We will not accept photographs of negative tests. Those travelling to the UK to attend conference are responsible for meeting the requirements as set out by the UK Government https://www.gov.uk/guidance/travel-to-england-from-another-country-during-coronavirus-covid-19. International guests will be required to provide evidence of double vaccination or a recent negative lateral flow test.


What social distancing measures will we have in place?

We will continue to work in line with the government restrictions at the time and base our own social distancing measures from this guidance. We will of course update our attendees to any changes or considerations that will need to be put in place, such as one-way lanes around the venues and traffic light systems at doorways, as part of the government’s most current coronavirus restrictions.


Will I get a refund if I decide not to attend but Conference still goes ahead?

The health and safety of all of those who attend and work at Annual Conference is of the utmost importance to us as an organisation. If we, the Labour Party, postpone or cancel this year’s Annual Conference you will be entitled to a refund for your pass. If Annual Conference does take place and you decide to cancel your pass then the normal Annual Conference refund policy applies.


Will food and beverages be made available at fringe events this year?

We are planning on making food and beverages available across fringe venues as well as within the Brighton Centre. We will of course update our attendees to any changes or considerations that will need to be put in place as part of the government’s most current coronavirus restrictions.


Will the restroom facilities be open for visitors?

The restroom facilities across all Conference venues will be available. Additional hand sanitising stations will be across the venues as well as at entrance points.


Will I be refunded my accommodation costs if the event is cancelled due to Covid?

If you have booked accommodation through The Labour Party and the event is cancelled, your accommodation will be refunded or any funds paid moved to the following year. If Annual Conference goes ahead but you wish to cancel your accommodation with us, the normal Annual Conference accommodation refund policies apply.
If you are booking accommodation externally, we recommend that refundable rooms are booked as The Labour Party will not refund any accommodation booked externally if Annual Conference is cancelled or moved online.


Will there still be left luggage facilities available?

We are planning on ensuring left luggage facilities are available but will be run on a self-service basis. More details of location and operating times will be in the Conference magazine. We will of course update our attendees to any changes or considerations that will need to be put in place as part of the government’s most current coronavirus restrictions.


Will Conference run at a reduced capacity?

We are planning on holding this year’s Annual Conference at full capacity attendance.
