Our work so far

  • GROWTH ACROSS THE COUNTRY

    Supporting our high street businesses

Labour is determined to see our high streets thrive. We have permanently cut business rates for 750,000 businesses including high street shops, restaurants and cafes. We are taking 15% off pubs’ new business rate bills from April – so that the industry as a whole will be paying 8% less in business rates in 2029 than they do currently. And we are cracking down on illegal high street activity in places like barbershops, vape shops and car washes through a new taskforce to tackle money laundering, so that our high streets are places people can be proud of.

  • GROWTH ACROSS THE COUNTRY

    Tackling the cost of living

Labour took action at the Budget to cut the cost of living: we are taking £150 off the average energy bill from April, freezing rail fares for the first time in 30 years, and freezing prescription charges. Together with other measures, we are bringing inflation down to ease the pressure on households and businesses.

  • Get Britain Building Again

Labour’s historic Renters’ Rights Act becomes law

Labour’s historic Renters’ Rights Act is now law, securing a fairer future for 11 million private renters in England.

The landmark legislation will abolish Section 21 ‘no fault’ evictions and rebalance landlord-tenant relations across England. Tenants will also be able to challenge unfair rent increases and ask to keep a pet – something landlords can’t say no to without a good reason.

  • GROWTH ACROSS THE COUNTRY

Landmark £5.8 billion Pride in Place programme launched

Labour’s landmark £5.8 billion Pride in Place programme is giving people across the UK the power to revitalise their neglected high streets and restore pride in their communities. In total, around 380 communities across Britain will receive funding, with local people deciding how the funding is spent. This is renewal in action, led by the people who know their neighbourhoods best.

  • GROWTH ACROSS THE COUNTRY

Fastest growing G7 economy in Europe

The UK was the fastest growing G7 economy in Europe in 2025. That is already translating to more money in people’s pockets – with wages up more in the first year of this Labour Government than in the first ten years of the Conservatives, and a boost to the State Pension. Interest rates have been cut six times, easing pressure on mortgages and borrowing for millions.

  • Making Work Pay

A pay rise for almost three million workers

Labour is delivering on our promise to make work pay. From April, the minimum wage will go up for 2.7 million people – boosting pay by £900 for a full-time minimum wage worker aged 21 and over, and £1,500 for 18-20-year-olds. We’re putting money back into people’s pockets and lifting living standards across the country.

  • Making Work Pay

Biggest upgrade to workers’ rights in a generation

Labour has secured the biggest upgrade to workers’ rights in a generation with our transformative Employment Rights Act. We’re banning exploitative zero-hour contracts, improving statutory sick pay, ending unscrupulous fire and rehire tactics, strengthening day-one rights and introducing new protections against dismissal for pregnant women. We’re delivering on our promise of better living standards and more money in the pockets of working people.

  • Industrial Strategy

    Launching a Modern Industrial Strategy

We know that economic growth relies on our innovative and world-leading British businesses. That’s why Labour has launched a Modern Industrial Strategy, with billions of pounds of government investment towards high growth sectors and technologies. This funding will help British businesses in every region to hire workers here in the UK, attract overseas investors, and slash industrial energy prices for sectors like automotive and steel that are the backbone of UK industry.

  • Get Britain Building Again

    Getting Britain building again

Labour is reforming the planning system to speed up the delivery of homes and infrastructure. We’re investing a record uplift of £39 billion in our new Affordable Homes Programme – part of our plan to build 1.5 million homes. We’re also making sure people renting their homes are better protected by introducing new rights for renters and ending “no-fault” evictions.

Why this is important

Sustained economic growth is the only route to improving the prosperity of our country and the living standards of more people.

That is why it is Labour’s first mission for government. It means being pro-business and pro-worker.

Through economic growth we will be able to boost funding for our public services, secure the jobs of the future, and most importantly put more money into the pockets of working people.
