The Agriculture Bill must address the long term food security of our nation – Sue Hayman
Sue Hayman MP, Labour’s Shadow Environment Secretary, commenting on the Government’s Agriculture Bill, said:
“According to reports, this Bill will overlook nutrition and long-term food security while failing to adequately address unfairness within the supply chain, workforce issues and long-term support for British food production.
“Farmers who work hard to improve the environment should be supported, but the proposals in this Bill will not undo the damage to the environment on this Conservative government’s watch. This is a government who have been dragged through the courts three times on their failure to tackle illegal air pollution, promoted fracking across our communities and failed to meet our climate change targets.
“The Agriculture Bill must address the long-term food security of our nation, prioritise the production of nutritious, good quality food, and ensure, in measurable and enforceable terms, the future of our environment, wildlife and habitats.”
