In my first Conference speech as Prime Minister and Party Leader I said hope comes from honesty. And, today, I told it straight.

I know in my heart we won’t achieve the change we need with more of the same.

My Plan for Britain is our chance to believe again.

When Britain is together, there’s nothing we can’t do.

And today, I’m asking you to stand with me.

We’re going to start with the essentials in life.

Housing, water and energy will be brought back under more public control so we can make them affordable again.

They’re ours: we rely on them, we pay for them, and we will have greater power over them.

We’ll give people breathing space with cost of living by cutting VAT on electricity bills and capping buses fares at £2.

But I know we need more.

Over the last decade, our problems got bigger while our politics got smaller.

Today, we changed that.

We’ll build a National Care Service so that every pensioner gets the care they need.

We’ll seek a new relationship with Europe.

And we’ll set up a national commission on electoral reform, to make sure everyone’s vote counts and everyone’s voice is heard.
