Andy McDonald responding to the planned Northern Rail strikes
Andy McDonald MP, Labour’s Shadow Transport Secretary, commenting on the planned Northern Rail strikes, said:
“Northern Rail passengers have endured months of disruption and face yet another above-inflation fares hike in January. The government and Northern Rail should be focused on delivering reliable services and keeping fares down. Instead, they are pushing ahead with staffing changes that will reduce accessibility for disabled passengers and increase safety risks.
“Labour would freeze fares on Northern Rail next year, funded by a tax on the profits of failing train companies, halt the expansion of cuts to staff on trains and bring the railway into public ownership.”
