Bridget Phillipson comments on reports the UK Government spent £800 million on unreliable Covid-19 tests
Bridget Phillipson MP, Labour’s Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, commenting on reports the UK Government spent £800 million on unreliable Covid-19 tests, said:
“Having spent £22 billion on a test and trace system that isn’t delivering and £150 million on face masks that can’t be used, we now discover that the Government has wasted a further £800 million on tests that aren’t reliable. These numbers represent staggering mismanagement of taxpayer money.
“By hitting families up and down the country with a triple hammer blow of council tax rises, cuts to Universal Credit and pay freezes, the Government risks choking off our recovery.
“With these levels of incompetence and wastefulness, it’s no wonder we’ve had the worst recession and the worst growth of any major economy.”
