Court date set for legal challenge against the Government’s voter ID plans – Cat Smith responds
Cat Smith MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Voter Engagement, commenting on the announcement that Neil Coughlan’s legal challenge against the Government’s voter ID plans will be taking place in the High Court on the 7th and 8th March, said:
“Although a court date is now scheduled for this important legal challenge, the Government still has time to abandon its unnecessary, undemocratic and unpopular proposals.
“We cannot let 2019 be the year that the Tories get away with closing down democracy by preventing people voting, which is why Labour is proud to support this legal challenge.
“This case is about defending everyone’s right to vote, and we applaud Neil for standing up against the Government.”
