Government must give NHS all the extra support it needs to cope with the snow and extreme weather – Ashworth
Jonathan Ashworth MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary, responding to today’s NHS weekly winter situation report showing 95.2% of hospital beds were full last week and 12,310 patients were stuck in the back of ambulances for more than half an hour, said:
“Theresa May’s NHS winter crisis is stretching into March and hospitals remain full to bursting. Last week was the busiest yet in our hospitals, even before the most extreme weather kicked in.
“With the snow that has hit Britain this week, the brilliant staff of the NHS are working round the clock to keep services running for their patients.
“With stories of NHS staff sleeping overnight in hospitals for the sake of the patients they care for, we need an urgent statement from Ministers outlining what additional help they are giving the NHS now to get through this cold snap. The Government must give the NHS all the extra support it needs to cope with the snow and extreme weather.”
