Jonathan Reynolds responds to inquest findings that a mother took an overdose after the removal of her disability benefits

Jonathan Reynolds MP, Labour’s Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, responding to inquest findings that a mother took an overdose after the removal of her disability benefits, said:

“This is a shocking case. The tragic loss of a young mother with her whole life ahead of her sadly shows that our social security system does not treat everyone with the dignity and respect they deserve.

“This Government may be unwilling to listen to those across Parliament wanting to see improvements, but they cannot ignore the law and a case like this. They must urgently respond to the coroners request for a prevention of future deaths report to ensure tragedies like this never happen again.”
