Our schools inspections regime isn’t fit for purpose – Angela Rayner
Angela Rayner, Labour’s Shadow Education Secretary, responding to the Public Accounts Committee’s warnings about Ofsted, said:
“This stark report is the latest evidence that the Tories are badly failing the entire education system, with even Ofsted hit by swingeing cuts. Our schools inspections regime clearly isn’t fit for purpose.
“This is a cross-party warning that the Government is focused on cost, not value, and it is a damning indictment of the Tories’ priorities. Instead of cutting school budgets, the Government should match Labour’s investment and give our education system the funding it needs.
“If the system isn’t delivering for pupils, we need to ask: who inspects the inspectors? As this report makes clear, Ministers cannot abdicate responsibility.
“The next Labour government will review the education system to ensure that all schools are accountable to the public and that providing a high-equality education to all pupils does not come second to meeting the demands of inspections.”
