Six years later, the Government still owes hundreds of millions of pounds to ill and disabled people – Marsha de Cordova responds to ESA underpayment figures
Marsha de Cordova MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Disabled People, commenting on ESA underpayment figures that show of 600,000 cases to be reviewed, just 296,000 have been completed, said:
“Six years after the Department became aware of its error, scandalously more than half of those affected have not had their reassessments completed. This means that the Government still owes hundreds of millions of pounds to ill and disabled people.
“It is disgraceful that the DWP continues to fail to right its wrongs.
“This shambles is yet another example of the hostile environment the Conservative Government has created for disabled people.
“Labour is clear that those affected by the ESA error must receive payment immediately.”
