Conservatives failing to meet own targets to eliminate the deficit – John McDonnell

John McDonnell MP, Labour’s Shadow Chancellor, commenting on ONS figures showing that public sector borrowing in April to December 2019 was £54.6 billion, £4.0 billion more than in the same period the previous year, said:

“Ten years of cuts to frontline public services and social security have come at an enormous human cost, while failing to meet the Conservatives’ own targets to eliminate the deficit.

“With experts confirming that more austerity is baked into the Government’s plans, it will be years more of cuts unless the Government changes direction in the Budget.”
