‘Conservatives have ushered in this age of in-work poverty’ – McDonnell responds to Resolution Foundation report
John McDonnell MP, Labour’s Shadow Chancellor, responding to a Resolution Foundation report published today on the rise of in-work poverty, said:
“Conservative governments over the last ten years have ushered in this age of in-work poverty, where people have to work longer and longer hours to stay out of poverty.
“The past decade of decline has seen vicious social security cuts, low pay growth, and insecure work that have repeatedly pushed people back into poverty.
“In-work poverty simply should not exist in the United Kingdom in 2020, and we‘ll continue to fight to abolish it despite the Tories’ cruel complacency.”
