Government biodiversity fund – Sue Hayman responds

Sue Hayman MP, Labour’s Shadow Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Secretary, commenting on the government’s biodiversity fund, said:

“Set against the £3 billion spent by the UK as a EU Member State on biodiversity through rural and environmental issues like farming, forests, fisheries and environmental restoration, this announcement of just £220 million is paltry.

“It makes crystal clear that the No Deal Brexiteers are in fact looking for ways to cut spending in all these areas, as soon as the UK leaves.

“Labour will protect the environmental regulation standards that we have as EU Members and so will also protect the spending on environmental protection and improvement measures.”
