Government knew of HS2 overspend – McDonald responds
Andy McDonald MP, Labour’s Shadow Transport Secretary, responding to news that the government knew three years ago that the cost of HS2 would overrun, said:
“Labour called on Transport ministers to come clean on the real cost of HS2 months ago and they refused to do so. People need to have confidence in the project. Trying to keep information away from public scrutiny is dishonest and bound to fail.
“The news that the Tories knew about cost overruns three years ago shows that ministers aren’t afraid to mislead the public and Parliament alike be it on this issue, Brexit or anything else. Now is the time for the Conservatives to provide transparency on HS2’s finances and governance.”
