Message of solidarity with Nazanin Zaghari Ratcliffe

Emily Thornberry MP, Labour’s Shadow Foreign Secretary, sending a message of solidarity to Nazanin Zaghari Ratcliffe, said:

“All our thoughts are with Nazanin Zaghari Ratcliffe this evening as she ends the first day of a hunger strike that she has been forced into in protest at the denial of medical treatment.

“This is a desperately worrying time for her husband Richard, their daughter Gabriella, their wider family, and all their thousands of supporters in Britain and around the world. They already have deep concerns about the physical and mental ordeal that Nazanin has been suffering, they know this drastic step will weaken her health still further, but she feels it is the only means of protest she has left, and our solidarity is with her in that.

“We repeat our calls on the Iranian authorities not just to end the inhumane treatment Nazanin has been suffering in prison, but to end her unjust detention altogether, and allow her to come home with her daughter to London without any further delay.”
