NFU’s net zero plan
Sue Hayman MP, Labour’s Shadow Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Secretary, responding to then NFU’s plan to achieve net zero emissions from agriculture by 2040, said:
“The report by the NFU is a welcome proactive step in tackling emissions from agriculture to help stop the climate emergency. Many farmers recognise the scale and urgency of the climate and ecological crisis and want to play their part.
“The government must explore the best way to reward farmers for storing more carbon in soils, hedgerows, woodlands, peatlands and wetlands.
“And the government must provide the support and leadership needed to ensure farmers can dramatically cut emissions and restore wildlife for Britain to produce the most climate-friendly food in the world.”
