Preparing for Climate Change report – Sue Hayman responds
Sue Hayman MP, Labour’s Shadow Environment Secretary, responding to today’s climate change adaptation sub-committee report, said:
“Temperatures in the UK are expected to rise regardless of how strongly emissions are reduced.
“It is clear from the report today that the government is chronically failing to prepare for the inevitable impacts of climate change, putting communities, industry and infrastructure at real risk.
“Shockingly, there are no areas where the government is deemed to be planning properly in 33 priority areas for climate change adaptation.
“Labour is calling for adaptation to be integrated systematically into the 25-year Environment Plan and for the government to stop short sighted cuts to adaptation programmes.”
