Stephanie Peacock responds to abolishing of visa fees for Commonwealth and Gurkha veterans
Stephanie Peacock MP, Labour’s Shadow Veterans Minister, responding to the Government and Conservative MPs voting down the cross party move to abolish visa fees for Commonwealth and Gurkha veterans said:
“Conservative MPs should hang their heads in shame for blocking this cross-party bid to force Ministers to waive the huge visa fees those who’ve fought for our country have to pay to live here when they leave the Forces.
“We owe Commonwealth citizens who serve in our Armed Forces a great debt of gratitude, yet they’re often left facing financial ruin and feeling abandoned by the country they served with honour.
“Labour have long campaigned for this change, alongside veterans and Forces charities. Ministers must think again and scrap these unfair fees.”
