Only a changed Labour Party can get Britain’s future back

Keir Starmer has kicked off the general election year with a clear message to voters: put your trust in a changed Labour Party to deliver for working people.

Having changed the party he was elected to lead in 2020, Starmer now wants to deliver change for the whole country.

“Britain needs change, wants change, is crying out for change,” he said in a speech in the West of England on Thursday. “And yet – trust in politics is now so low, so degraded, that nobody believes you can make a difference anymore.”

Slamming Rishi Sunak’s scandal-hit Tory Government, he said: “After the sex scandals, the expenses scandals, the waste scandals, the contracts for friends, even in a crisis like the pandemic, people have looked at us and concluded we’re all just in it for ourselves.

“A nation that is so exhausted, tired, despairing even, that they’ve given up on hope.”

The corrosion of trust that has come as a result of 14 years of the Tories in government gives Labour a huge task to convince voters that it is worth putting their faith in politics at all when it comes to this year’s General Election.

For that, Labour needs help to get out our message. Up against the big money campaign chest the Tories will be able to rely on, we will need as many supporters to volunteer their time to speak to voters, and chip in to fund our own election campaign.

So if you want to see a Labour government in 2024, help us deliver it.

In order to rebuild trust, Keir Starmer made a clear vow, directly to the country, that a Labour government will behave in a manner fitting public office.

“Whether you’re thinking of voting Labour for the first time, whether you always vote Labour, or whether you have no intention of voting Labour whatsoever: my party will serve you,” he said.

“That’s who we are now, a changed Labour Party. No longer in thrall to gesture politics, no longer a party of protest, but a party of service.”

The country deserves a mission-led government to help restore trust and get Britain’s future back. This year, be part of the team that makes it happen.
