General Election 2024: How Labour will change Britain – and everything else you need to know about this election
The 2024 General Election will be a choice between a weak and divided Conservative Party that has failed the people of this country after 14 years in power, and a Labour Party with Keir Starmer that is back in the service of working people and will change Britain.
Under the Tories, public services are crumbling, ambulances don’t come, families are weighed down by higher mortgage rates, and anti-social behaviour blights our high streets.
Five more years of the Tories in Downing Street will only lead to more political chaos. They aren’t the answer to the problems we face.
Keir Starmer has changed the Labour Party and has a plan to change Britain.
We are a party reconnected to our purpose: to serve the working people who drive our country forward. A party that puts economic stability at the forefront of everything we do.
And a Labour Party that puts our country’s interests first.
Labour’s long-term plan – with five missions to change Britain– will replace decline with a decade of national renewal.
That is what is on the ballot at this election.

What does Labour and Keir Starmer stand for in this election?
Keir Starmer’s Labour Party is the choice of change at this election.
Labour has set out five missions to change Britain: long-term plans we will pursue to make sure that this country works for working people again. They are:
- Get Britain building again
- Switch on Great British Energy
- Get the NHS back on its feet
- Take back our streets
- Break down the barriers to opportunity
Keir Starmer has also laid out Labour’s first steps for change to build towards the missions. They are:
- Deliver economic stability with tough spending rules, so we can grow our economy and keep taxes, inflation and mortgages as low as possible.
- Cut NHS waiting times with 40,000 more evening and weekend appointments each week, paid for by cracking down on tax avoidance and non-doms.
- Launch a new Border Security Command with hundreds of new specialist investigators and counter-terror powers to smash criminal gangs and strengthen our borders.
- Set up Great British Energy, a publicly-owned clean power company, to cut bills for good and boost energy security, paid for by a windfall tax on oil and gas giants.
- Crack down on antisocial behaviour, with more neighbourhood police paid for by ending wasteful contracts, tough new penalties for offenders, and a new network of youth hubs.
- Recruit 6,500 new teachers in key subjects to set children up for life, work and the future, paid for by ending tax breaks for private schools
When will Labour release its 2024 manifesto?
In brief: Why should I vote Labour?
If you want to quickly see what Keir Starmer and Labour will do in government, here are 10 Labour policies that will change Britain.
When is the next General Election in the UK?
The General Election will be held on Thursday 4 July 2024 and polling stations will be open between 7am and 10pm.
This General Election is a choice between continuing with the chaos and decline of the last 14 years with the Conservatives, and a plan for a decade of national renewal with Keir Starmer’s changed Labour Party.
Why has the General Election been called?
The 2024 General Election has been called because Rishi Sunak is weak and he has lost faith in his ability to turn Britain around.
He has spent months telling the country that the economy has turned a corner and his plan was working. If he believed that, he would have allowed this Parliament to run for another six months. The timing shows he has no faith in his own plan.
If Rishi Sunak has no faith in his own plan, why should the British public?
How can I help Labour in the election?
The best thing you can do over the next few weeks to make change happen in Britain is volunteer to campaign for Labour. Just let us know your postcode, and we can direct you to your nearest marginal constituency where your help can be the most impactful.
Campaigning takes lots of forms, from canvassing by knocking on voters’ doors and calling people on the phone, to leafleting and giving your local party office support. You can learn more about volunteering for Labour here.
The other huge difference you can make is donating to Labour’s campaign funds. The Tories so often win in this country because they always outspend us – and having raised campaign spending limits, they’re set to do the same again.
We need to keep up to have a chance in this election, so please consider donating to Labour or joining the Rose Network for supporters who want to see a Labour Government.
