Brexit’s negative impact on UK Science – Chi Onwurah responds

Chi Onwurah MP, Labour’s Shadow Science Minister, commenting on the Royal Society’s findings that Brexit is already having a negative impact on UK Science, said:

“The government is wilfully sacrificing scientific progress on the altar of ideology.

“No Deal would be a total disaster for science, but the rumoured proposals being cobbled together by the government would still leave us at a significant disadvantage. We need a deal that maintains close alignment with the single market, supports collaborative funding bids on major projects, and that means the U.K. welcoming researchers rather than putting up barriers.

“Labour would negotiate a deal that would protect our scientific communities and let the people decide by giving them the final say on Brexit.”
