Council services are at breaking point – Andrew Gwynne
Andrew Gwynne MP, Labour’s Shadow Communities and Local Government Secretary, commenting on the publication of the Housing, Communities and Local Government Select Committee’s report on local government finance and the 2019 Spending Review, said:
“This report confirms what we already know: council services are at breaking point, leaving them exposed to significant risk and performing an impossible juggling act to balance the books.
“It lays bare the Tories’ chronic underfunding of local government and the climate of uncertainty that they have created for councils.
“The Conservatives have cut 60p out of every £1 that the last Labour government invested in our councils, causing irreparable damage to communities across the country.
“People deserve so much better. They deserve a Labour Government that will provide local councils with the funding they need to deliver the services that communities rely on.”
