Deep concern at Amnesty International discontinuing India operations – Stephen Kinnock
Stephen Kinnock MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Asia and the Pacific, on Amnesty International’s decision to discontinue operations in India, said:
“We are deeply concerned that Amnesty International has concluded it must discontinue its operations in India, due to what it describes as ‘persistent harassment’ by the Indian government.
“Healthy democracies depend on pluralism, accountability and respect for human rights and free speech. Amnesty plays a crucially important role in holding governments to account and the Indian government should ensure it can operate with freedom and independence.”
