Jonathan Ashworth comments on the government’s review of hospital food
Jonathan Ashworth, Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary, commenting on the government’s review of hospital food, said:
“Matt Hancock promised this review months ago and incompetence is why it has taken so long to be launched.
“Years of austerity mean that some hospitals are only spending close to £3 per patient a day on meals for patients – it’s an utter disgrace. Labour will invest in hospital catering, enforce mandatory minimum standards and bring catering back in-house.”

- Labour pledged to place hospital food standards on the same legal basis as school food standards, to ensure hospitals meet mandatory minimum standards for the food served to patients, staff and visitors, and these standards should be independently monitored and enforced, in April 2018 https://labour.org.uk/press/jonathan-ashworth-labours-shadow-health-secretary-speech-hospital-caterers-association-2018-conference-newport/
