Lancet findings are a reminder that social care needs long term funding solution

Barbara Keeley MP, Labour’s Shadow Cabinet Minister for Social Care, commenting on new research from the Lancet Public Health Journal, said:

“This research is yet another urgent reminder of the need for a long-term funding solution for social care and greater immediate support for councils who provide social care.

“Eight years of Tory cuts to council budgets have hollowed out the social care system, leaving it ill-equipped to deal with the sharp rise in social care needs we’re seeing right now, let alone the rise in demand that we know is coming.

“Labour pledged at the last election to invest £8 billion across this Parliament to start to deal with the crisis and has pledged to place a cap on social care costs to share the risk of high social care costs fairly across the country.”
