Luke Pollard responds to the Environment Secretary’s speech at Delamere Forest on nature and the environment
Luke Pollard MP, Labour’s Shadow Environment Secretary, responding to the Environment Secretary’s speech at Delamere Forest on nature and the environment, said:
“We are in a climate and ecological emergency, and 44% of species have been in decline over the last 10 years.
“We congratulate campaigners on getting this major Government concession. But the Environment Bill and these tree and peat plans still do nowhere near enough to match the scale of the problem, with a few long-term targets that the Secretary of State has discretion to change or remove.
“The Government needs to get serious, stop kicking the can down the road and act now to avoid ecological devastation.”
