Margaret Greenwood responds to figures on the number of children in the UK living in long-term workless households

Margaret Greenwood MP, Labour’s Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, said:

“Behind these figures, the Government has a very poor track record on helping parents into work that pays a decent wage.

“Wages are still below 2008 levels and three million children are growing up in poverty despite living in a working household. Millions of people are trapped in insecure work, causing stress and anxiety for children across Britain.

“Labour will introduce a Real Living Wage of £10 an hour, ban zero hour contracts and make tackling child poverty the priority it should be.”
