Mark Carney’s intervention on climate change is a breakthrough moment – McDonnell

John McDonnell MP, Labour’s Shadow Chancellor, responding to Mark Carney’s warning on climate change, said:

“Mark Carney’s intervention, together with key representatives of the national banks of France and the Netherlands, is a breakthrough moment.

“Labour has already pledged to rewrite the Government’s Green Book, changing investment criteria to prioritise tackling climate change, and has made this the central mission of our industrial strategy.

“We will now consult on changing the Bank of England’s mandate to reflect the climate change emergency highlighted by the Extinction Rebellion protests.”
