Marsha de Cordova responds to 1 in 3 BME workers having had to self-isolate during the pandemic

Marsha de Cordova MP, Labour’s Shadow Equalities Secretary, responding to a TUC report showing that 1 in 3 Black and minority ethnic workers have had to self-isolate during Covid-19 pandemic, said:

“These findings are shocking, but unfortunately not surprising.

“Racism in the workplace is real and has been exacerbated throughout the pandemic with Black, Asian and minority ethnic workers being disproportionately affected.

“This is why Labour’s Lawrence review called for a clear action plan to protect workers and a legal requirement for employers to publish their Covid-19 risk assessments on a central portal.

“It is vital that all workers are supported and protected throughout the pandemic.”
