Marsha de Cordova responds to EHRC chair accusing the government of “dragging its feet” over racism and failing to make it a priority
Marsha de Cordova MP, Shadow Women and Equalities Secretary, responding to the EHRC chair accusing the government of “dragging its feet” over racism and failing to make it a priority, said:
“It’s profoundly worrying to hear the Equalities Minister Kemi Badenoch ask why it is that people don’t believe the Government is taking action to tackle structural racism when by her own admission they have implemented less than half the recommendations from the Lammy review.
“They are still to implement Ethnicity Pay Gap reporting which they consulted on well over a year ago.
“The outgoing Chair of the Equality and Human Rights Commission says the government are dragging their feet; the Minister’s response that they are making a ‘fresh start’ on tackling racism in the UK is disingenuous at best.
“The time for more reviews has long since passed, we need a Race Equality Strategy now.”
