NHS financial sustainability PAC report – Ashworth responds
Jonathan Ashworth MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary, responding to the PAC report on the financial sustainability of the NHS, said:
“Following pressure from patients, staff and the Labour Party, the government was forced to redraw the funding settlement for the NHS, but these warnings confirm that it has failed to put NHS on a sustainable long term footing.
“The NHS is grappling with 100,000 vacancies and growing waiting lists. What’s more, ongoing cuts to adult social care, public health services and raids on capital budgets are setting patient care further back.
“It’s now beyond doubt the government has failed the NHS and it’s patients that are paying the price”
