Nick Thomas-Symonds responds to Philip Allott resignation

Nick Thomas-Symonds MP, Labour’s Shadow Home Secretary, commenting on the resignation of the Conservative Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for North Yorkshire, Philip Allott, said:

“It’s absolutely right that Philip Allott resigns following his appalling remarks.

“His awful comments show that misogyny needs tackling, and the community response to them shows it will no longer be tolerated.

“Yet again we’ve seen a total failure of leadership from the Tories. They should have forced him to leave two weeks ago when Keir Starmer called for it.

“However, delivering the change needed to rebuild trust in policing is a far bigger job. That’s why a full statutory inquiry is needed into the failings to ensure that women and girls can feel safe on our streets.”
