ONS employment stats – Margaret Greenwood responds

Margaret Greenwood MP, Labour’s Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, responding to new ONS employment figures, said:

“The fall in the level of employment and signs that the political chaos over Brexit caused by this government are affecting businesses’ hiring plans are a matter of real concern.

“A No Deal Brexit would hit people on low and middle income hard. Average pay is still below the level of 2008 and millions of people are trapped in low paid, insecure work.

“Labour is committed to opposing a No Deal Brexit. We will address the real problems affecting our economy, introduce a real living wage of at least £10 an hour for workers age 16 and over and invest to create decent jobs that last and lift people out of poverty.”
