Owen Smith comment on ITC announcement

Commenting on the announcement from the ITC, Owen Smith, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, said:

“This announcement from the ITC is welcome news for the 4,000 workers in Bombardier’s Belfast plant and to thousands of other staff employed in the supply chain across the UK. They have been left in limbo, their job security thrown into doubt by the failure of the Conservative Government to take a more active role in supporting UK manufacturing and for the world leading expertise we possess.

“This unanimous verdict sets the record straight that the launch funding provided by the last Labour Government to enable Bombardier to grow and develop was the right decision.

“This should be a signal to Theresa May that investing in manufacturing and supporting areas like Northern Ireland should be a priority for her Government.”
