RBS closures will hit communities – Jonathan Reynolds
Jonathan Reynolds MP, Labour’s Shadow Treasury Minister, responding to news that RBS is closing a further 54 Royal Bank of Scotland branches in England and Wales with the loss of 258 jobs, said:
“It is disappointing to see RBS announcing the closure of so many bank branches today, coming just months after the most recent round of cuts in May. Bank closures hit local communities and jobs and we hope RBS will give careful consideration to protecting both.
“Under a Labour government, there would be mandatory consultation around the closure of bank branches which includes the regulator. We have a duty to ensure there is basic banking infrastructure for all who need it.”
