Shadow Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Tony Lloyd, responds to Harland and Wolff sale
Commenting on the sale of Harland and Wolff Shadow Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Tony Lloyd, said:
“Harland and Wolff is Europe’s largest shipyard in the heart of East Belfast, an area in great need of jobs, employment, skills and training. This site and its workers need immediate government assistance. I have written to the Secretary of State outlining my concerns and asking him to take action urgently.
“The absence of a functioning executive and assembly is preventing local action to work to create the industrial strategy that Northern Ireland needs.
“The new Prime Minister Boris Johnson is touring Scotland Wales and Northern Ireland offering £30 per person, Northern Ireland needs an industrial strategy not a gimmick.”
