It is a shocking indictment of Tory austerity that Ofsted has to warn the Government about the impact of cuts – Rayner
Angela Rayner MP, Labour’s Shadow Education Secretary, commenting on the publication of Ofsted’s annual report, said:
“It is a shocking indictment of Tory austerity that Ofsted has to warn the Government about the impact of cuts to local authority budgets on our young people, and the impact of off-rolling on vulnerable children.
“When even the Chief Inspector recognises that Tory cuts to children’s and youth services are a false economy, it is time for Ministers to act and end their cuts to local authorities.
“With thousands of students off-rolled every year, the most vulnerable are the most likely to be let down and fall through the gaps and out of education altogether. Labour will end the perverse incentives that could reward schools for off-rolling students, and instead make schools accountable for the outcomes of the pupils who leave their rolls, to ensure that every child gets the support and education they deserve.”
