The spike in crime on our railways underlines the importance of a properly staffed railway to keep passengers and employees safe – Maskell

Rachael Maskell MP, Labour’s Shadow Transport Minister, responding to new Police figures which have shown that crime recorded on British railways has increased by almost a fifth, including a rise in the number of violent and sexual offences, said:

“The spike in crime on our railways, including a sharp rise in sexual offences, underlines the importance of a properly staffed railway to keep passengers and employees safe.

“Labour has warned the Government of the risks posed by the expansion of Driver Only Operation and today’s figures show why the de-staffing of trains and stations must be halted immediately.”
