Tariff exemption being extended simply prolongs the uncertainty for UK companies – Gardiner
Barry Gardiner MP, Labour’s Shadow International Trade Secretary, responding to the announcement that the exemption for UK steel exports to the United States will be temporarily extended, said:
“The tariff exemption being extended simply prolongs the uncertainty for UK companies. Liam Fox must rule out any quota arrangement or some sort of trade off with the USA. The truth is that these US tariffs fly in the face of WTO rules and the Government should not be giving in to bullying by the United States.
“The way to tackle the genuine problem of overcapacity in global production is by multilateral action, not by undermining the whole rules-based system itself.”
