The Tories’ failed austerity project has hit the most vulnerable – Angela Rayner
Angela Rayner MP, Labour’s Shadow Education Secretary, commenting on the Children’s Commissioner’s report estimating that there are over two million vulnerable children, said:
“The Tories’ failed austerity project has hit the most vulnerable and the Tory response is to continue their relentless cuts to child protection services.
“The Government’s own figures show that spending on children’s services has already fallen by a tenth since they took power, and they are heading for a £2bn shortfall by 2020. Instead of giving multi-billion pound tax breaks to bankers, Ministers should ensure the most vulnerable children are protected and supported.
“Labour will create a new National Education Service, invest £500m a year in Sure Start, and provide 30 hours of properly funded childcare to all 2-4 year olds.”
