The Tory government’s policies have caused misery for disabled people – Marsha de Cordova

Marsha de Cordova MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Disabled People, commenting on the latest ONS statistics on well-being which show that disabled people were almost twice as likely as non-disabled people to report poor personal well-being, said:

“These latest statistics show that the Tory government’s policies have caused misery for disabled people.

“Their brutal cuts to social security and their cruel sanctions and assessments regime has led to a hostile environment for disabled people – as was acknowledged by the United Nations Committee for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, who said that the government’s policies have led to the ‘grave and systematic’ violation of disabled people’s rights.

“The next Labour government will transform our social security system, ensuring it supports disabled people to live independently and with dignity.”
