Youth Work Week begins
Cat Smith MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Voter Engagement and Youth Affairs, marking the beginning of Youth Work Week, said:
“Youth workers are the unsung heroes of our communities and play a vital role in transforming the lives of young people across the country.
“The Tories have completely dismantled the whole infrastructure of local authority youth services and it is testament to our voluntary sector that provision has not completely collapsed.
“Not a single extra penny was found in the Budget for youth services so clearly austerity is not over and it is young people who are suffering as a result.
“The next Labour government will address this crisis by guaranteeing high quality youth services in every council, so that all our young people have somewhere to go, something to do and someone to speak to.
