How Labour will reform childcare and education to smash the class ceiling

Keir Starmer and Bridget Phillipson at Barnet school

The promise we tell our children is that if you work hard you can get on. Yet too often in modern Britain, your background determines where you end up.

The mission of the next Labour Government will be to break down the barriers to opportunity that too many of our young people face.

We will reform childcare to make sure that all of our children get the best possible start in life.

We will deliver high and rising standards in our schools, so that all of our young people will get a firm foundation in the basics needed to get on in life. We will make sure that they get access to music, to sport, to art and to drama so that opportunities are available to all. This will put education at the heart of Labour’s missions to build a better Britain.

The last Labour Government transformed the life chances of a generation. Today, change is needed more than ever.

The next Labour Government will make sure there is no ceiling on the ambitions of our young people right across our country.
